A Funny Thing Happened at Walmart…

DonMy friend Don has lived as a quadriplegic in a wheelchair almost as long as I have – and I’m always inspired by his upbeat, positive attitude (plus he and his wife Mary continue to collect wheelchairs for our Wheels for the World outreach). The other day he wrote, “Hey, Joni … I was sitting inside Walmart while Mary was parking the van, and an elderly woman pushing a shopping cart approached me. As she walked by she said emphatically, ‘The wipes dispenser needs cleaning!’ With that, I flashed her a smile and said, ‘Thank you, Ma’am!’ Isn’t it amazing how God gives us a spark to keep going?” Now, Don isn’t an employee at Walmart, but he appreciated someone acknowledging that people with disabilities can hold jobs and be of help to the community. I just love Don’s perspective; he always makes the best of what could be an awkward moment. And it’s a lesson for us today – may we, too, extend mercy to others, always making the most of the moment!
