joni and friends staff having lunch at family retreat

Last week, a group of us flew in from the International Disability Center to serve at the Family Retreat at Bonclarken, North Carolina, each coming with a different set of skills. On the far left is Careen, who got me up every morning and to bed every night, watered and fed me, and held every book for an autograph. Next is Rainey, our manager of the Joni and Friends radio program — she helped Careen and was busy interviewing lots of families for upcoming broadcasts. Then there’s Judy, my executive assistant, who ‘set up office’ in our room, keeping me on top of a slew of emails and making sure we were on schedule for every appointment. Next is Becky, our Joni and Friends webmaster, who snapped a zillion photos and kept our blogs active. Cindy is our Joni and Friends journalist, who captured a ton of great stories for upcoming newsletters, brochures and our monthly letters. Finally, Dana. He came to help with short-term missionary training, but also ended up fixing a lot of wheelchairs throughout the week.

Each reflected the heart of Ephesians 6:7: “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.” All week long, we were going here, there and everywhere… but on the last day, we grabbed a meal together and sat long enough for a quick photo. Thank you, crew, for making a week of travel so special!
