The Catch of His Dreams

Ken holding a permit fishOn the day of my wedding, one of Ken's groomsmen told me, "Joni, be sure to let Ken keep his dreams." And so, I've always been an avid cheerleader of my husband's love for fishing. Ken just returned from the Bahamas and fly-fishing with his Bible-study buddies (don't think it was glamorous; they stayed in a rundown house with bad plumbing on a scruffy little island filled with mangroves and mosquitoes). But a dream was realized: he caught a prized permit fish. My husband tells me these are world-class sporting fish that are extremely skittish and difficult to 'fool' with a lure (hard to believe, looking at that fat, little fish in the photo). Anyway, he came home spiritually refreshed, happy with all his catch-and-releases, and with a zillion bug bites. I guess that little permit-guy was worth it :-).

Joni, Thanks for the story. I was just talking to a girl today about a fishing trip 30 years ago. A couple of us caught permit, and for a little fish they give a huge fight. One permit actually straightend out the hook (they have a strong mounth)!! Anyway, later in the conversation, I got the opputunity to witness to this unbeliever in a big way - at the end of the conversation, she asked me to keep her in her prayers (Her name is Nicole). When I got home and saw this picture of the permit on FB, I felt it was God giving me a little "atta boy". I hadn't told that fish story in a long time - the day I happen to tell it, I see this permit on your facebook page! God was saying to me you can do it - "be a fisher of men"!

It's so good to enjoy God's blessings in life, and in our relationships. Your couple is an expression of God's grace and of the joy he wants us to enjoy! God bless you!

Ken's fish looks like a Pacu fish and Great White shark hybrid! Hope you all are well! I was just dxed w/ hypogammaglobulin as well as HAE I&II. In addition hereditary hyper LDLp averaging >1600. I've been having heart attacks and strokes and I kept working not knowing it until 2006. So that's a testament that being terminally ill and not knowing it, God does! From my going out and coming in,
