Ed Robins

For more than fourteen years, Ed Robins has served Wheels for the World as a Chair Corps volunteer. He works with our Chair Corps team in St. Louis, and in addition to collecting used wheelchairs, Ed has also been an indispensable driver for us. You see, our Chair Corps team in St. Louis collects hundreds of used wheelchairs each year, and these wheelchairs need to be transported to prison-based Restoration Centers before they can be refurbished. That’s when we rely on Ed. He enjoys driving long distances in his pick-up truck and is always willing to pull a trailer full of wheelchairs to any destination.

In fact, Ed has delivered wheelchairs to several Restoration Centers when no one else would, during cold winter months and right before the holidays. He has also driven long distances with an empty truck and trailer in order to transport wheelchairs for Chair Corps volunteers in other cities. In 2017 alone, he transported almost 800 wheelchairs over eight trips! He has driven from St. Louis to Kansas, Michigan, Indiana, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Arizona, and even California.

We are so blessed to have a volunteer like Ed, who is readily available to drive anywhere we need him to, even if it isn’t terribly convenient. But the very best part about Ed is his attitude. Not only is he unfailingly cheerful and flexible, but he is also truly humble; he takes pleasure in serving and doesn’t expect any type of recognition. In Isaiah chapter 6, the Lord asked, “Whom shall I send?” And Isaiah replied, “Here I am. Send me!” That’s the Christ-like attitude Ed has, offering help where it’s needed most.
