God’s Little Surprises

Cause 4 Life InternsThis summer, our Cause 4 Life interns are discovering that God loves to surprise them. Serving at Family Retreat, overseas in Haiti or the Dominican Republic, and in local churches, there have been countless opportunities for God to surpass their expectations. He surprised Theresa, one of our East Coast Academy interns, when she was paired with two teenage boys at Jill’s House to ministering to children with special needs. At first, Theresa found herself unsure about the two boys who were nonverbal and needed to be closely watched. “I was completely out of my comfort zone, didn’t know what to do… I didn’t know how to love or care for these kids.” But that’s when Theresa asked God to give her His love. “When I interacted with them again, I wanted to know these boys. As I started to understand them more, I started to love them. I realized that they had likes and dislikes, just like me.” She discovered that one of them loved to sing, his face lighting up when she sang, “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” She also found herself surprised by simple things—seeing them write their names, play computer games, or jump in the bouncy house. Reflecting on her week at Jill’s House, Theresa concluded, “I think God wanted me to learn that I need to give every child a chance.” One week of allowing God’s grace take over made all the difference. As the summer for our interns draws to a close, would you join us in praying that they continue to let God surprise them wherever He leads them next?
