Ian and Larissa: When Love Didn’t Give Up

By |Published On: January 29, 2018|Categories: News|

In 2005, Ian and Larissa were just two young college students. They started dating and before they knew it, these two had fallen in love – Larissa was head-over-heels for this fun-loving guy with a liking for the outdoors. Only a year later, however, as Ian was driving to work to earn money for a ring, their lives were turned upside down — Ian’s car slammed under an SUV, leaving him with a traumatic brain injury that affected his ability to walk and speak.

Many wondered whether Ian was still really ‘there.’ But Larissa knew that underneath all the disability, Ian was still the same man she knew and loved. And so, Larissa moved in with Ian’s family to help care for him. As time passed, and Ian regained some of his ability to communicate, the two sealed their love, marrying on a special date — August 28, 2010 — in tribute to their favorite Bible verse, Romans 8:28. It was clear God worked this tragic situation for the good of Ian and Larissa — and for the good of so many others who have been blessed by the love and commitment of this extraordinary couple.

In fact, Ken and I recently read their book, “Eight Twenty Eight: When Love Didn’t Give Up,” and found it to be a huge encouragement because of my own disability in our marriage. It’s why I wanted to share with you this touching video of Ian and Larissa’s love story. I just know you will be blessed! And friend, whether you’re married or a caregiver to a loved one with a disability, I invite you to join me this week as I share on Joni and Friends radio about five marriages affected by disability that have blessed my life. Just tune-in to your local radio station or listen online on our radio page.
