Ken's Love Language

I may not know much about the Japanese language, but there’s one phrase I often hear from Ken: “Daisuki Desu!” What does it mean? “I love you!” Ken may shout it in the morning from the shower, or he may sing it in the evening as he’s cleaning up in the kitchen. Sometimes he’ll sing it to me from the driver’s seat as we’re heading down the freeway to church. Whether in a whisper, a song, or a shout, “Daisuki Desu,” tells me that Ken’s love for me, his wife, is overflowing. His little sing-song greeting always has me echoing back the same love call — my Japanese accent may be awkward, but I love saying to my husband, “Daisuki Desu!”

And you know what’s great? After more than 35 years of marriage, we are still in love, and joyfully celebrating our life together — we have the Lord Jesus to thank for that. So, this Valentine’s Day, Ken and I will lift glasses of sparkling cider and, once again, seal our commitment with a hearty “Daisuki Desu!” And as long as the Lord allows, we’ll do the same for the years to come. Happy Valentine’s Day, friend!
