Max Has My Back

Max Has My BackFive or six years ago, I had to change my chest-harness straps (they keep me safe when riding in the back of my van). The new straps didn’t fit quite right; I needed a little extra ‘something’ behind my back to give support. My friend grabbed a book by Max Lucado off-the-shelf and wedged it behind me. After a few months of using the same book, I would ask, “Where’s Max? I need him for my back!” It spawned a litany of phrases: “Max is in the kitchen… Find Max, I think he’s on the floor… What, he’s in the bathroom?… And don’t worry, Max has my back!”

When I shared this story with the actual Max, he autographed the front page, writing that it was a joy to be able to give me daily support. That was years ago. And I just emailed this photo to my friend, Max Lucado to let him know that, yep, he still has my back :-).
