Remembering my Friend, Hugh...

Everywhere you go this month, you hear strains of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” right? It was written by Hugh Martin for the film Meet Me in St. Louis, in which Judy Garland made it famous. Sometime later, Hugh, a successful composer and lyricist, suffered a nervous breakdown – but through it, he came to know Jesus Christ! Afterward, he decided to rewrite sacred lyrics for his Christmas classic – he called it “Have Yourself a Blessed Little Christmas.” Hugh and I became fast friends after he read the Joni book and began praying for and supporting our ministry. Earlier this year, however, God called him home to heaven at the age of 94. Be inspired by this remarkable man’s story by watching this touching video (below). RIGHT NOW just the way things are, everything is okay (because He is with me in this and will never leave me or forsake me) I sometimes feel deep sadness for the way circumstances are and have been in my life, but I am reminded that THIS (whatever it may be) IS God loving me and my family. I know that there is specific purpose and mighty work that He is doing~ just the way things are today. I have become a friend of loss and grief knowing that it is astronomically not to be compared to the great accomplishments God is doing through them in my life. I know he is keeping all of my tears in His special container and that He knows my sorrows~ Finally I have joy IN those sorrows as well as joy in the celebrations in my life. Thanks for the encouragement today! This song has always been one of my favorites and I always changed the lyrics to "through the years we all will be together, if the LORD allows" :-) love, Laura

Joni, I feel I met you when I read about your accident a little over 40 years ago. How I cried and prayed with you and for you. I have held you in my heart and now here you are again. Your are the same Joni with a voice that remains young and glorious. My mother, Mother Teresa, Kathryn Marshall, and you, Joni have been my life long inspirations. May God Bless you always.
