Ken and Joni reading through the BibleAs you probably know, Ken and I are reading through the Bible in a year (chronologically) with a whole bunch of friends who signed up with us on my radio page (it’s never too late for you to download the chronological reading schedule and join us :-). I was so refreshed by a recent Bible reading – after chapters and chapters of sinful rebellion and divine punishments, we opened to Isaiah 35. “‘Be strong, do not fear; your God will come… he will come to save you.’ Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.” (Isaiah 35:4-6). Just as this portion of Scripture gave God’s people hope and encouragement so many centuries ago, it’s still blessing us today – oh, what a glorious day that will be when God will close the curtain on sin and suffering; tears and sorrow will be no more; and disabilities will be a thing of the past; I’ll join you in jumping up, dancing, kicking and doing aerobics! Yes, God may send his people into suffering (as he was about to do with Judah’s exile into Babylon), but he always sprinkles wonderful words of hope, reminding his people ‘it won’t always be this way; a brighter, better time is coming; so hang on and trust the Lord.’ There will be other hopeful words as we move further into Isaiah, so be ready to praise the Lord for that bright and better day soon to burst on the horizon for us all! If you are one of our fellow-readers this year, thanks for keeping at it – we’re halfway through.
