“It’s Your Day, Daddy”

John EarecksonThat’s what my sisters and I would say every Father’s Day to our dear dad, John King Eareckson. We would shower Dad with handmade cards, favorite poems, and always a big banana split ice-cream sundae at the end of the day. My father was incredibly influential in our lives, and to this day, I am still guided by his homespun wisdom and favorite “Eareckson-isms,” like, “Remember, Joni, when you leave the house you carry the good name of the Eareckson family!” Daddy was born in 1900 (this photo was taken in 1936 when he was, well… 36 years old)! And although years have passed since he went to heaven in 1990, his winsome smile, sparkling blue eyes, and booming laugh are a treasured seal in my memory. If your dad is still alive, find a way this Sunday to honor and bless him in a warm and personal way.
